During The first half of 2017, 11,897 Malaysians visited India, making Malaysians the 13th nationality in numbers to visit.
All foreign nationals entering India are required to possess valid international travel documents in the form of a national passport with a valid visa obtained from an Indian Mission, except those from Nepal and Bhutan. Malaysians are among the nationals of over 160 countries who can benefit from the online e Visa India introduced by the Indian Government on 27th November 2014. Malaysians may apply for the online visa to India through our website online application. As of July 16, 2012, handwritten visa application forms are not accepted by the High Commission of India for issuance of a visa.
An application for e-Visa must be made at least 4 calendar days and up to 240 calendar days in advance of the date of arrival. The visa is valid for one year from the date of arrival. Continuous stays during each visit on an e-visa cannot exceed 90 days. Holders of an e-business visa are allowed to stay for 180 days. Duration of stay cannot be extended.
After successfully completing and submitting the online visa application form, a printout of the signed and completed form and prescribed support documents must be submitted to the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur on business days between 9.30 am and 12 noon. Visa Types
The standard documents required for any visa includes 2 color photographs (Size 2” X 2”) against a white background, copy of Malaysian identity card, copy of flight ticket, signed and completed application form, and the original passport. Some visas may require additional supporting documents, which will be noted specifically for the applicable visa type. Visa fee and service fee are non-refundable. Malaysian Nationals may apply for the following visas issued by the Indian Government:
TOURIST VISA
Tourist Visa is granted to a Foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sight-seeing, and casual visits with friends or family. The Mission typically issues the tourist visa valid for six months for multiple entries, on condition that each stay not exceeding 45 days. The fee for a Tourist visa valid for up to 1 year for single or multiple entries is RM 448 + RM 13. Visas valid for 1 year to 5 years for multiple entries are RM 896 + RM 13.
BUSINESS VISA
Foreign nationals visiting India to explore or establish industrial or business ventures, or to purchase or sell industrial products in India need a business visa. The visa is not approved for petty trading purposes. Applicants must prove expertise in the field of the intended business and be of assured financial standing. Supporting documents required are local company letter and company registration, an invitation letter from India and the company registration. The fee for a Business visa valid for up to 1 year for single or multiple entries is RM 538 + RM 13. For more than 1 year and up to 5 years for multiple entries, the fee is RM 1120 + RM 13.
ENTRY VISA
The Entry Visa is granted for up to 6 months for single or multiple entries at a fee of RM 359 + RM 13, between 6 months and 1 year for multiple entry at RM 538 + RM 1, and between 1 year and 5 years for multiple entry at RM 896 + RM 13. Entry visas are granted to:
- spouses and dependent family members of a foreign national entering India on long term visas (e.g., Employment and Research)
- Persons of Indian Origin, his/her spouse and dependent children with proof of PIO status, marriage certificate (spouse) and birth certificate (children)
- Spouse of OCI/PIO card holders and dependent children holding relevant proof.
EMPLOYMENT & PROJECT VISAS
Foreigners seeking entry into India for the purpose of employment need an Employment visa. An eligible applicant must be either a skilled and qualified professional or engaged or appointed at a senior level or in a skilled position by a company, organization, industry or undertaking within India on contract or employment basis. Fee for a visa for single or multiple entries for up to 6 months is RM 538 + RM 13, multiple entry between 6 months and 1 year are RM 896 + RM 13, and multiple entry between 1 and 5 years are RM 1344 + RM 13. Additional supporting documents include an employment contract for the company in which they will be working, academic certificate, and the Indian company registration.
STUDENT VISAS
Student visas are valid for the duration of the course or 5 years, whichever is less, for multiple entries at a fee of RM 359 + RM 13. Specific guidelines as to the student visa requirements can be viewed on the Indian government website.
MEDICAL VISAS & MEDICAL ATTENDANT VISAS
Single or Multiple Entry Visas for up to 6 months carry a fee of RM 359 + RM 13, and for multiple entries between 6 months and 1 year are RM 538 + RM 13.
CONFERENCE/SEMINARS VISAS
Additional supporting documentation required for the conference/seminar visa are a letter of invitation from the organizer of the conference, or the nomination letter from a Malaysian organization. Fee for single or multiple entry visas valid for up to 6 months is RM 359 + RM 13.
TRANSIT VISAS
Applicants for the transit visa which is valid for up to 15 days for a single or double entry at a fee of RM 90 + RM 13, must produce a confirmed air ticket for onward journey.
JOURNALIST VISAS
All foreign journalists, regardless of the purpose of their visit, should apply for a “J” (journalist) visa, for a stay of up to three months in India. The fee for a journalist visa valid for up to 6 months for single (or double entry with HOM’s approval) is RM 359 + RM 13. Specific requirements are in place, and applicants are directed to view the Indian Government website for up to date terms and conditions.
Applications must include a letter from the organization describing the applicant’s job title and the nature of their work, and whether traveling for work purposes or as tourists.
RESEARCH VISAS
Single or multiple entry visas for up to 6 months carry a fee of RM 359 + RM 13, 6 months to 1-year, multiple entry RM 538 + RM 13, between 1 year and 5 years, multiple entry RM 896 + RM 13.
